Free Live Class about Mindfulness & Compassion
Mindfulness and Compassion are two wings of the same practice.
In this session we will explore how Mindfulness in full bloom is always compassionate – Mindfulness is heartfulness.
We will discuss and distinguish these two concepts, including what it means to complete the circle of Compassion and the difference between Empathy and Compassion. Our time together will include translating these concepts into practice and embodying

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS: Anna Marie Batelaan & Dagmara Urbanowicz
Anna Marie Batelaan, BSW, MSW, RSW, MSC Trained Teacher
Anna Marie Batelaan is a social worker with over 24 years of experience. She has been recently awarded the Ontario Brain Injury Association Social Worker of the Year Award for 2020. She works at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Mud & Lotus Wellness, and is an Instructor in the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Program at the School for Continuing Studies.
She facilitates mindfulness workshops, groups, and retreats as well as being an advisory member of the School of Continuing Studies. She has been co-facilitating Mindful Self Compassion Groups for Staff at Holland Bloorview for the past 3 years as well as co-facilitating a Mindful Self Compassion group at the Dalla Lana School for Public Health at UofT.
She has co-presented twice at A Mindful Society Conference. Anna Marie co-developed an Interprofessional Education workshop on Mindfulness and Compassion for health care students (UofT). She is co-recipient of Holland Bloorview’s, Teaching & Learning Institute Recognition Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Education.
Anna Marie has a BSC (UofT), BSW (York), MSW (UofT). She completed the foundations in applied mindfulness meditation, applied mindfulness meditation specialist, and core mindfulness-based cognitive therapy facilitation certificates (UofT). She is mindful self-compassion trained teacher, trained at The Centre for Mindfulness Studies and Centre for Mindful Self-Compassion (UCSD).
Dagmara Urbanowicz, HSc, MSW, RSW
Dagmara Urbanowicz is a Social Worker with a Masters from the University of Toronto and over 12 years of experience working with children and families.
She currently holds a position at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Dagmara is a Mindfulness practitioner, teacher, and facilitator with a focus on supporting professional caregivers in developing their well-being through Mindfulness.
She has co-presented at a Mindful Society Conference on her work on integrating Mindfulness in the workplace at Holland Bloorview. As part of this work, Dagmara co-developed an Interprofessional Education (IPE) workshop on Mindfulness and Compassion for UofT healthcare students. She is a co-recipient of Holland Bloorview’s Teaching & Learning Institute Recognition Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Education for her role in developing this workshop.
Dagmara is a Mindful Self-Compassion trained teacher and has co-facilitated this program for staff at Holland Bloorview, for 3 years, as part of the Employee Mental Health Strategy. She is an instructor of the AMM Mind Foundations courses and a member of the Mindfulness Advisory Committee at the UofT School of Continuing Studies. She has organized and facilitated retreats, workshops, and groups in a variety of clinical and community settings.
